India to Host 2023 Men's Hockey World Cup in Odisha

India, 22 December 2025 — India is gearing up to host the 2023 Men's Hockey World Cup in the eastern state of Odisha. The event, set to take place from January 13 to January 29, will feature matches in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. This marks the second consecutive time that India is hosting the prestigious tournament, having previously hosted it in 2018.

The tournament will see participation from 16 teams from across the globe, with the Indian national team aiming to capitalize on home advantage. The matches will be held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and the newly built Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, which is being touted as one of the largest hockey stadiums in the world.

Odisha's Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, expressed confidence in the state's readiness to host the event, highlighting the region's commitment to promoting hockey. Patnaik stated that all necessary infrastructural and logistical arrangements are in place to ensure a smooth tournament.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has endorsed the facilities and praised the efforts of the Indian authorities in preparing for the World Cup. The event is expected to boost tourism and bring international attention to Indian hockey.
