A portable pickleball net is the easiest way to turn a badminton court, society basement or terrace into a pickleball court. As pickleball spreads across Indian housing societies and schools, many groups are buying their first net and are not sure what to look for. This guide covers regulation size, portability, wheels and budget.

Portable pickleball net: what size is regulation?

A regulation pickleball net is 22 feet wide, 36 inches high at the sides and 34 inches high in the centre. The Cosco Pro League listing states a width of 22 feet and a height of 36 inches, meeting official court specifications. If your society wants to host proper games or tournaments, choose a net that follows these dimensions rather than a smaller, casual one.

Wheels vs no wheels

Wheels matter more than people expect. A heavy net with a metal frame is stable on a hard court, but it is awkward to move if your space doubles as a parking area, party hall or badminton court. A net with wheels can be rolled out and stored in minutes. A no-wheel portable net is lighter and cheaper to ship but needs two people to carry. Think about who will set up and pack away the net every evening; the best net is the one your group will actually use.

Indoor and outdoor use

If the net will stay outside in Indian sun and rain, look for weather-resistant materials and a frame that can be dried and covered. For a terrace, also think about wind: a light net can tip over in a gust, so a heavier frame or sandbag-style weights help. For an indoor hall, a lighter portable net is usually fine.

How to choose by group size

  • Family or a few friends: the Cosco Pro League is a sensible entry point.
  • Housing society with daily play: a heavier net, ideally with wheels, will save your volunteers effort.
  • Club or academy: invest in the heavy-duty movable net and plan court markings too.

Do not forget the rest of the kit

A net is only part of the setup. You will need paddles, outdoor or indoor pickleballs depending on the surface, and court line tape or paint. Start with the net, then add a pair of paddles and a set of balls so everyone can join in on day one.
