Sania Mirza to Lead India's Inaugural Women's Tennis Coaching Program
India, 13 December 2025 — Former tennis star Sania Mirza has been appointed to spearhead India's first-ever dedicated women's tennis coaching program. Announced by the All India Tennis Association (AITA) on Tuesday, the initiative aims to nurture female tennis talent across the country by providing access to high-quality coaching and training facilities.
Mirza, who retired from professional tennis earlier this year, expressed her enthusiasm for the role. "I am thrilled to be part of this initiative, which promises to pave the way for the next generation of Indian female tennis players," she stated at the press conference held in New Delhi.
The program will initially focus on identifying young talent from various regions, with a special emphasis on rural areas where access to sports facilities is limited. It will provide selected players with specialized training programs, exposure to competitive events, and mentorship from seasoned professionals.
The AITA highlighted the importance of this program in addressing the gender gap in Indian sports, particularly in tennis where female representation at the international level has been limited. By investing in grassroots development, the association hopes to create a robust pipeline of female athletes who can compete successfully on the global stage.
The coaching program is set to commence in early 2026, with Mirza and her team planning to conduct talent scouting camps across the country in the coming months.
