What is a master link / quick link?

A master link (also called a quick link or power link) is a special chain link with a side plate that can be opened and closed by hand or with a tool, allowing the chain to be removed without a chain breaker. Most modern chains from KMC, Shimano, and SRAM include one or can use aftermarket quick links.

How do I use the chain wear indicator?

Hook the indicator into the chain while it is on the bike. A reading at the 0.5% mark means the chain should be replaced soon. At 0.75%, replace immediately — cassette wear is likely already occurring. A new chain will show no indicator movement.
