Brisbane Heat Crush Sydney Sixers' WBBL Hopes with 12-Run Victory
Brisbane Heat's resurgence continued as they dealt a significant blow to Sydney Sixers' WBBL campaign, securing a 12-run victory at North Sydney Oval.
The Heat's bowlers rose to the occasion, restricting the Sixers to 127 for 8, successfully defending their total of 139 for 9. Jess Jonassen led the charge with three wickets for 24 runs, while Shikha Pandey and Amelia Kerr claimed two wickets each.
Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne provided a solid start for the Heat, but Kerr's impressive spell of 4 for 23 put the Sixers in control. However, the Sixers' momentum faltered as Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry, and Kerr fell cheaply.
Sarah Bryce and Sophie Ecclestone attempted a late rally, but Pandey and Jonassen held their nerve in the final overs to secure the victory.
The result leaves the Heat fifth on the ladder with a 4-3 record, while the Sixers' hopes of reaching the finals are in jeopardy with a 3-4 record.
Of particular concern for the Sixers is the fitness of Alyssa Healy, who opted not to keep wicket due to ongoing foot issues. Healy's absence from behind the stumps raises questions about her availability for the upcoming summer of cricket, including the Ashes series.
