Chepauk Super Gillies emerged victorious in the eighth edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), breaking their two-game losing streak. Inspired by Pradosh Ranjan Paul's unbeaten 67 and a stellar fielding performance, the Super Gillies defeated IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans by 15 runs at the Salem Cricket Foundation Ground.
Chasing a target of 158, the Tamizhans faced early setbacks as superlative catches removed S. Radhakrishnan and Tushar Raheja. Amit Sathvik's dismissal while attempting a maximum further weakened their batting lineup. Despite S. Ganesh's valiant effort of 61 runs, the Tamizhans were unable to overcome the early jolts.
Earlier, the Super Gillies had posted a competitive total of 157/6 in 20 overs. N. Jagadeesan and Pradosh Ranjan Paul shared a crucial third-wicket partnership of 53 runs. After Jagadeesan's departure, Pradosh took charge, slamming boundaries in the death overs to guide his team to a respectable score.
Mohamed Ali emerged as the pick of the Tamizhans bowlers, claiming three wickets for 29 runs. However, the Super Gillies' fielding brilliance proved decisive, with Rahil Shah's leaping catch at covers to dismiss Tushar Raheja being a highlight.
G. Periyaswamy's exceptional penultimate over, in which he conceded only two runs and took a wicket, sealed the victory for the Super Gillies. The win marked a significant turnaround for the team, which had lost its previous two matches.
