Fraser-McGurk's Blazing Fifty Powers Delhi to Record-Breaking Start
Delhi Capitals' opener Jake Fraser-McGurk set the Arun Jaitley Stadium ablaze with a blistering half-century off just 15 balls, equaling his previous fastest T20 fifty. Mumbai Indians' decision to field first proved costly as Fraser-McGurk tore into their bowling attack.
The Australian batsman's onslaught propelled Delhi to a record-breaking 92/0 in the powerplay, with Fraser-McGurk contributing 78 runs. This is the third-highest individual score in the powerplay in IPL history.
Fraser-McGurk's innings was a masterclass in power-hitting, with the right-hander dispatching boundaries with ease. He became only the third batsman to score two half-centuries in 15 or fewer balls in T20 cricket, joining Andre Russell and Sunil Narine.
Delhi's dominance continued as they reached the 100-run mark in just 6.4 overs. Abishek Porel joined the party, hitting Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya for a six.
However, legspinner Chawal finally broke the 114-run partnership in the seventh over, dismissing Fraser-McGurk for 84 off 27 balls. The Australian's innings included 10 fours and 4 sixes.
Despite Fraser-McGurk's departure, Delhi continued to pile on the runs, reaching 150/1 in 10 overs. Prithvi Shaw (24*) and Rishabh Pant (22*) remained unbeaten at the crease.
Mumbai Indians' bowlers struggled to contain Delhi's batsmen, with only Chawal and Kumar Kartikeya managing to pick up wickets.
