Glamorgan Claim First Vitality Blast Win with 25-Run Triumph over Sussex
Glamorgan's first victory in the 2024 Vitality Blast came in a thrilling 25-run triumph over Sussex at Cardiff. Sam Northeast's unbeaten 61 proved crucial, while Tymal Mills' four-wicket haul restricted Glamorgan to 183 for 7.
Sussex's chase was anchored by James Coles' career-best 69 not out, but Mason Crane's economical spell of 2 for 22 proved decisive. Glamorgan's improved fielding and consistent bowling kept Sussex at bay, securing their first win of the competition.
Glamorgan's innings began with a 56-run powerplay, but wickets from Danny Lamb and Mills slowed their progress. Northeast and Colin Ingram steadied the ship with a 68-run stand, but Mills' double-strike removed both batsmen. Dan Douthwaite's 11 was followed by Northeast's six off the final ball, setting Sussex a target of 184.
Sussex's chase started brightly, but wickets from Tom Bevan and Ingram halted their momentum. Carter and Coles kept them in contention, but Glamorgan's regular wickets kept the pressure on. Crane's excellent spell, including a boundary catch from Marnus Labuschagne, further stifled Sussex's progress.
Coles' intelligent batting kept Sussex in the hunt, but the required rate proved too high. Glamorgan's bowlers maintained their discipline, securing their first win of the season.
