Heavy Rains Bring Relief to Hyderabad, But Raise Concerns for IPL Match
Hyderabad witnessed a much-needed respite from the scorching heat on Thursday afternoon as heavy rains lashed the city. However, the downpour also brought flooding to several areas, leading to traffic disruptions and inconvenience for residents.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), the highest rainfall recorded as of 4 p.m. was over 51 mm. Yousfuguda received the maximum rainfall of 51.3 mm, followed by 48 mm at the Centre for Economic and Social Studies, 44.3 mm at Adarsh Nagar, 42.8 mm at Srinagar Colony, 42.5 mm in Balanagar, 42.3 mm at Banjara Hills, 40.8 mm at Gachibowli, 40.5 mm at Neredmet, 34.3 mm at Gajularamaram, 38 mm at Telecom Colony, 37.3 mm in Gajwel, and 36.8 mm in Jeedimetla.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers, with occasional intense spells and gusty winds for Thursday evening and night in the Charminar, Khairatabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad, and Serilingampally zones of Hyderabad.
The heavy rainfall has raised concerns about the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans scheduled to be held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal this evening. Many Hyderabadis have taken to social media to express their worries about the weather conditions and its potential impact on the match.
The IMD has also issued a three-day thunderstorm alert for Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and Rangareddy districts, advising people to monitor the weather and be prepared to move to safer locations if conditions worsen.
The Director of Enforcement, Vigilance, and Disaster Management of GHMC has urged citizens to be vigilant and has provided contact numbers for assistance in case of emergencies.
