ICC Monitors Security Situation in Bangladesh Ahead of Women's T20 World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is closely monitoring the security situation in Bangladesh, the host nation of the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup scheduled for October. The Bangladesh Police imposed a curfew and deployed military forces in Dhaka on Saturday after protests over government job quota reforms escalated into violence.

"We have independent security monitoring across the world. So, yes, we are keeping a watch on it (the situation in Bangladesh)," an ICC Board member told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Australia, the most successful team in the Women's T20 World Cup with six titles, will be looking to defend their crown. England and the West Indies have each won the tournament once, while India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, will be aiming for their maiden title.

India is currently participating in the Women's Asia Cup in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, and pacer Renuka Singh has emphasized the importance of the tournament as preparation for the ICC event. "The Asia Cup is important for us because after this we don't have many matches (ahead of T20 WC) and we will have to rely on practice," she said. "So, this is a learning experience for us, and the conditions (in Bangladesh) could be similar. So, this is a good chance for us to get ready for the World Cup."

The ICC has expressed confidence in Bangladesh's ability to host a safe and successful tournament. "We are working closely with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Bangladesh government to ensure that all necessary security measures are in place," an ICC spokesperson said. "We are confident that the tournament will be a great success."

The Women's T20 World Cup will be held from October 11 to 29 in Dhaka, Sylhet, and Chittagong. Sixteen teams will compete for the coveted trophy, including Australia, England, India, Pakistan, South Africa, and the West Indies.
