Kent and Worcestershire Draw in High-Scoring Encounter

Kent and Worcestershire played out a tame draw in their Vitality County Championship match at Canterbury, with the visitors' mammoth first-innings total of 618 for 7 declared proving too much for Kent to chase down.

Kent resumed their second innings on the final day on 146 for 4, still 65 runs behind Worcestershire's first-innings total. However, they showed resolute resistance, with Harry Finch leading the way with an unbeaten 48.

Earlier, Jack Leaning had made an unbeaten 179 as Kent were bowled out for 407 in their first innings, still 211 behind. Joe Leach took three for 37 for Worcestershire, while Matthew Waite claimed three for 51.

Worcestershire's bowlers toiled hard but failed to make any significant breakthroughs on the final day. Ben Gibbon claimed two for 38, but Kent's middle order held firm, with Finch and Evison putting on an unbeaten partnership of 47.

The draw was widely expected before the start of play, as the pitch proved to be a batsman's paradise. Worcestershire's bowlers took just six wickets during the whole of day three, while Kent's bowlers struggled to make any inroads on the final day.

The result leaves Kent in fifth place in Division One, while Worcestershire remain in eighth place.
