Michael Pepper's Century Powers Essex to Vitality Blast Victory

Essex's Vitality Blast campaign got off to a flying start with a resounding four-wicket victory over Middlesex at Chelmsford. Michael Pepper's blistering century, featuring six towering sixes, propelled Essex to a comfortable chase of Middlesex's 203 for 7.

Middlesex's innings was anchored by Max Holden's unbeaten 85 from 42 balls and Martin Andersson's 49 from 31 balls. However, Essex's bowlers kept the visitors in check, with Aaron Beard, Matt Critchley, and Paul Walter all claiming wickets.

In reply, Essex's chase was ignited by Pepper's explosive knock. The left-hander smashed 101 runs from just 43 balls, including 10 fours and six sixes. Dean Elgar (32) and Jordan Cox (22) provided valuable support, but it was Pepper's brilliance that stole the show.

Pepper's century came off just 20 balls, the fastest in the Vitality Blast this season. He reached his fifty in 20 balls and continued to punish the Middlesex bowlers with effortless power-hitting.

Middlesex's bowlers struggled to contain Pepper's onslaught, with Blake Cullen and Josh de Caires conceding multiple boundaries. Luke Hollman eventually dismissed Pepper for 101, but by then, Essex had all but secured the victory.

Essex's win was a much-needed boost after losing their opening two matches of the tournament. The victory showcased the team's batting depth and the destructive power of Michael Pepper. Middlesex, on the other hand, will be disappointed with their performance and will need to regroup quickly for their upcoming fixtures.
