Mitchell Starc's Match-Winning Performances Propel KKR to IPL Title

Mitchell Starc, the veteran Australian pacer, played a pivotal role in Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) third IPL title triumph. Despite a slow start to the season, Starc found his rhythm in the crucial knockout stages, delivering match-winning performances in both the Qualifier 1 and the final.

Starc, who has limited T20 experience in recent years, admitted to taking time to adjust to the format. "I haven't played a lot of T20 cricket in the last few years. So, it was about trying to find that rhythm of the format, and staying ahead of batters," he said.

Working closely with bowling coach B. Arun, a familiar face from their time at Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Starc focused on tactical adjustments rather than technical changes. "It wasn't technical. It was probably a bit more tactical; there were suggestions for trying different things," he explained.

In an era of high-scoring matches, Starc emphasized the importance of maintaining composure. "I think T20 is a great leveller. You can have some good days, and two days later, you can have a shocking day," he said.

Despite being the costliest buy in IPL history at ₹24.75 crore, Starc remained unfazed by the price tag. "You don't need extra motivation. I am here as an overseas [player], and it's [for] nights like tonight or the last game that I have been picked," he said.

Starc acknowledged that his career is nearing its end and that he may have to prioritize franchise cricket over international commitments. "I am closer to the end of my career than the start. One format may drop off, there's a long time before the next ODI World Cup, and whether that format continues for me or not, it may open doors for more franchise cricket."
