Amol Kale, the 47-year-old honorary president of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), passed away in New York due to a cardiac arrest. Kale, along with MCA secretary Ajinkya Naik and apex council member Suraj Samat, had witnessed India's thrilling victory against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup from the stadium on June 9.
Kale's election as MCA president in October 2022 marked a significant milestone in his career. He emerged victorious in a closely contested battle against World Cup champion Sandeep Patil. During his tenure, Kale played a pivotal role in the MCA's decision to double the match fees for Mumbai's senior men's team starting the forthcoming season.
Hailing from Nagpur, Kale established a strong presence in Mumbai over a decade ago, where he set up various businesses. He was known to be a close associate of Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra's deputy chief minister.
Beyond his involvement in MCA affairs, Kale was also a co-promoter of the Indian Street Premier League, a tennis-ball franchise cricket league launched earlier this year. His contributions to the sport extended beyond the traditional boundaries of cricket.
Kale's untimely demise has left a void in the Mumbai cricket fraternity. His leadership and vision will be deeply missed. The MCA has expressed its condolences to Kale's family and friends, acknowledging his significant contributions to the association and the sport of cricket.
