Warwickshire Draw with Hampshire as Yates Continues Impressive Form

Warwickshire's Rob Yates continued his impressive form in the Vitality County Championship, scoring an unbeaten 84 to help his team draw with Hampshire at the Utilita Bowl. The draw leaves both sides with 13 and 10 points respectively, after three rounds of the competition.

Warwickshire resumed the day with a 136-run lead and adopted an aggressive approach in an attempt to force a result. Alex Davies, who has amassed 481 runs this season, was dropped early on but was dismissed shortly after for 27.

Yates, who has now scored three half-centuries in as many matches, took on the responsibility of keeping the scoreboard ticking. He was joined by Will Rhodes, who contributed 25 before being dismissed leg-before by Liam Dawson.

Yates and Ed Barnard put on a 54-run partnership, with Yates reaching his half-century in 84 balls. Barnard was dismissed for 18, and Dan Mousley followed soon after for 14.

With rain interrupting play after lunch, the match was eventually abandoned as a draw. Hampshire remain at the foot of the table, while Warwickshire are in a mid-table position.

Yates' unbeaten knock ensured that all of Warwickshire's top three batsmen now average over 100 after the first three rounds of the Championship. Davies has 481 runs at an average of 123, while Rhodes has 348 runs at an average of 116.
