Bayern Munich Edge Arsenal to Reach Champions League Semi-Finals
Bayern Munich secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Arsenal in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash, earning a 3-2 aggregate triumph and a place in the semi-finals.
The match at the Allianz Arena was a cagey affair, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances in the opening half. However, Bayern emerged stronger after the break and took the lead in the 63rd minute through a Joshua Kimmich header.
Kimmich's goal came after a perfectly executed chip from Raphael Guerreiro, who impressed in an unfamiliar advanced role due to Bayern's injury woes. The Portuguese winger found space down the left flank and linked up well with Jamal Musiala in the center.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta opted for a defensive approach, fielding Takehiro Tomiyasu at left-back to neutralize Leroy Sane. However, the Japanese defender struggled to find his rhythm and allowed Sane to create several dangerous moments.
Gabriel Martinelli was Arsenal's most dangerous player in the first half, but he failed to capitalize on his chances. Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer made a crucial save to deny Martinelli a goal on the half-hour mark.
After the break, Bayern dominated possession and created several chances. Leon Goretzka headed a Kimmich cross onto the woodwork, while Sane missed a golden opportunity to double Bayern's lead.
Arsenal pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages, but they were unable to break through Bayern's defense. Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka both had chances in stoppage time, but their shots were blocked.
Bayern's victory marks their return to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since winning the title in 2020. They will face Real Madrid for a place in the final.
