India, 12 December 2025 — Indian wrestlers showcased a commendable performance at the United World Wrestling (UWW) Championships held in Belgrade, Serbia, with several athletes advancing to key rounds in their respective categories. The event, which commenced on 10 December, continues to see participation from over 500 athletes worldwide.
Bajrang Punia, one of India's leading wrestlers, secured his place in the quarterfinals in the 65 kg freestyle category after defeating his opponents from Mongolia and Kazakhstan. His strategic maneuvers and defensive skills were highlighted as decisive factors in his victories.
In the women's category, Vinesh Phogat also advanced to the quarterfinals in the 53 kg category. Phogat's agility and experience were on full display as she overcame her Turkish and Japanese rivals in the earlier rounds.
