Boyer Stuns Svrcina, Reaches Delhi Open Challenger Semifinals
Tristan Boyer, the 242nd-ranked American, stunned fourth seed Dalibor Svrcina of the Czech Republic 7-6(2), 7-6(1) in the quarterfinals of the Dafa News $82,000 Delhi Open Challenger tennis tournament on March 1.
Boyer, 22, displayed resilience in a match marked by eight breaks of serve. Despite Svrcina's attempts to fight back, Boyer's strong serve proved decisive in the tie-breaks.
In the semifinals, Boyer will face Geoffrey Blancaneaux of France, who overcame qualifier Philip Sekulic of Australia 7-6(3), 6-2. Blancaneaux, who had previously defeated second seed Adam Walton, broke Sekulic's resistance after a hesitant start.
The other semifinal will feature Yuta Shimizu of Japan and Coleman Wong of Korea. Shimizu defeated Enrico Dalla Valle of Italy 7-5, 7-5, while Wong beat Tristan Schoolkate of Australia 7-6(10), 6-3.
In doubles, Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner of Germany advanced to the final after defeating Ray Ho of Taiwan and Calum Puttergill of Australia 3-6, 7-6(6), [10-5]. Piotr Matuszewski of Poland and Matthew Romios of Australia also reached the final with a 7-6(4), 6-1 victory over Constantin Kouzmine and Maxime Janvier of France.
