India, 20 December 2025 — Sania Mirza, the former Indian tennis star, has been appointed as the mentor of the Indian women's tennis team for the upcoming Asian Games. The appointment was confirmed by the All India Tennis Association (AITA) on Tuesday, marking a significant move to boost the team's performance in the international event.
The Asian Games are set to take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from January 15 to January 30, 2026. Mirza's experience and insights are expected to provide a strategic edge to the team as they prepare to compete against some of the strongest contingents in Asia.
Mirza, who retired from professional tennis earlier this year, is one of India's most successful tennis players, with six Grand Slam titles to her name. Her leadership and mentoring are anticipated to enhance the skills and confidence of the Indian players.
This will be the first time Mirza will take on an official role with the national team since her retirement. Her involvement is seen as a morale booster for the players, who are aiming to improve their performance from the last edition of the Games.
The Indian women's tennis squad has been training rigorously, and with Mirza's guidance, they hope to make a mark in the forthcoming Asian Games. The team is expected to depart for Bangkok in early January to acclimatize and finalize their preparations.
