Amritraj, who was born in Madras, India, in 1953, turned professional in 1970 and quickly rose through the ranks. He reached a career-high ranking of No. 16 in 1980 and won 16 singles titles, including the 1979 Cincinnati Masters. Amritraj also represented India in Davis Cup for over two decades and was a key member of the team that reached the semifinals in 1974 and 1987.
Paes, who was born in Calcutta, India, in 1973, turned professional in 1991 and quickly established himself as one of the best doubles players in the world. He has won 18 Grand Slam titles, including eight men's doubles titles and 10 mixed doubles titles. Paes also represented India in Davis Cup for over two decades and was a key member of the team that won the title in 1994.
Evans, who was born in London, England, in 1949, has been a tennis journalist for over 40 years. He has written several books on tennis, including the biographies of Amritraj and Paes. Evans is also a regular contributor to The Times and The Guardian.
The induction of Amritraj, Paes, and Evans into the International Tennis Hall of Fame is a testament to their outstanding contributions to the sport of tennis. They are all pioneers in their own way and have helped to shape the game as we know it today.
