Basic Bicycle Tool Kit for Home Repairs in India: Allen Keys, Spanners and Tyre Levers
You do not need a full workshop to look after your bike. These are the first tools worth owning, with starter prices in India.
Basic bicycle tool kit for home repairs: start with five tools
Most bicycle adjustments need only a handful of tools. Owning them saves trips to the workshop for small jobs like raising the saddle, straightening the handlebar or fixing a puncture. This guide lists the tools worth buying first and what they cost on InstaSport. For a bigger workshop, see our home workshop tools guide.
1. Allen keys and a multi-spanner
Hex bolts hold the saddle, stem, handlebar and brake levers. The CMB Toolkit (₹150) pairs Allen keys with a multi-spanner for basic adjustments such as saddle height, stem angle and brake lever position. It is a budget starting point.
2. Hex keys with a screwdriver
The IceToolz 4/5mm Hex Keys and PH2 Screwdriver (₹490) combines the two most common hex sizes and a Phillips driver for housing stop screws. It is compact enough for a saddle bag.
3. A Y-wrench for faster work
The Cyclus Tools Y-Wrench (₹1,295) has 4, 5 and 6 mm hex ends in a three-way design, which gives more leverage and a better grip than small folding keys.
4. Tyre levers and puncture patches
Roadside repairs need tyre levers and patches. The Lezyne Matrix lever set (₹390) and Birzman puncture patches (₹425) cover this. Carry a spare tube too; the Vittoria standard tube (₹349) is one option, but always match tube size and valve type to your tyres.
5. Chain lube and degreaser
Not a tool, but essential: a chain lube (₹825) keeps the drivetrain quiet and efficient. Read our chain lube and cleaning kit guide to choose well.
Tools to buy later
- Torque wrench: useful for carbon parts and for tightening to spec.
- Cone spanners and bottom bracket tools: only if you service hubs and cranks yourself.
- Repair stand: makes everything easier once you service regularly.
Before winter rides, run through our pre-winter service checklist using these tools. Take care with safety-critical parts such as brakes and handlebar bolts; if you are unsure, ask a mechanic.
